ECW- Kings Lifeguard of Foote Pt.3

A bit more movement on this regiment, slightly......

Okay the pike men I had for this unit were from the Foundry range and the shotte from the Perry range (both sculpted by the Perry's) and stylistically were quite different, seeing as I needed to order some horse, and Perry's being much cheaper, I opted to buy 2 packs of Perry pike men for this unit to tie the pike and the shotte bases together. Usually I'm not so fussed about this but the opportunity was there so why not spend a couple more $'s.

Foundry pike men above standing (although they could be viewed and advancing) with pike at 45% wearing the Montero cap. These chaps wont be wasted as I have plenty of Foundry shotte that they can be married to.

A sample of the Perry pike men in marching pose, I will be using the standing pose for this regiment as the shotte are in firing and loading pose, it just happened that his was the box I grabbed a sample figure from. The sculpts aren't as detailed and relaxed as their Foundry work but the proportions are much more realistic and will fit better with the shotte, particularly useful down the track if I need to move them on.

Mock up of the pike block with the Foundry figures, yes the officers are finally finished.

Two bases worth of shotte in mock up, I do need to make the regiments look a bit more rag tag, I figured the Lifeguard might have been a bit more presentable...

Another of the command, I think the officer and standard bearer with the cape are Foundry, not so sure about the other however he looks well pleased with himself... being in the Kings regiment and all.

And the dead and injured are piling up, decided to get a start on some casualty figures (Warlord Games) to sprinkle about the bases, chaps in blue will be a hint of the next regiment after the Lifeguard......

ECW- Kings Lifeguard of Foote Pt.2

Work has progressed slowly on ye Kings Lifeguard so not much of an update but an update none the less. Officer and Mr. Flagman are now finished after much procrastinating...

 Standard Bearer

Officer, Colonel Grumpy Pants

Couple of tiny touch-ups left to do like hair and lips but you get the general idea. Also started the men with pikes which look like they are Foundry as opposed to the Shotte which are from Perry Miniatures, whether this will look odd come basing remains to be seen (they are on separate bases) but an emergency baggie of Perry pikers may not be out of the question.

I'll do this chap in blackened armour for a test and if all goes well more will follow, it is one thing to follow historical accuracy and completely another when it comes to what looks best for the table top. There might have been quite a bit of blackened and russeted armour in real life but it is it pretty enough at 1/56th scale? I don't see too much russeted armour in table top armies......

Second of the Lifeguard standard bearers

Finish off with a few more shotte coming through in this batch, the last chap might be a Foundry figure the rest Perry's with another loading pose and kneeling firing, following on from the poses in Pt. 1.

ECW- Kings Lifeguard of Foote Pt.1

With Henry Tilliers Regt. finished, minus a pike man and standard, I have moved on to your majesties Regt. or Lifeguard. The figures for this regt. are as bought (Painted as the Lifeguard) and have the correct standards and paraphernalia so all I'm doing is some highlighting, a few glazes and the flesh tones.

It appears that these are Perry miniatures, by the heft, and exhibit somewhat wooden animation (the casting, grrrr) and the stiffness which I associate with the twins own ranges. On the plus side proportions are realistic and same with the drape of the cloth so overall quite serviceable sculpts.

As with Tilliers regt. I'm using a variety of (red) tones so they don't look too modern or uniform, don't want uniform uniforms! The basis is a variation of brick red for the riff raff and scarlet's and vermilion for the high born officers.

As for the officer figures, these seem more like Foundry (yes probably Perry sculpts) with a little more charm. Still a long way to go but they are gaining some direction...... oh, and me.

ECW-Henry Tilliers regiment of Foote: Pt. 2

Posing the figures on their bases, need one more pike man and a dedicated flag waver. I would really like the pike block to look like a pike block rather than a couple of random pikes and the rest being command figures.

Test run with two command figures shared out to the musket bases and a command figure centered on the pike base where I will place the standard bearer (see below).

Alternatively I could make up a narrow base to place the command figures on and situate them in front of the pike block and move them to the rear when required in close action.

When it is all said and done it is just a vanity problem, hey but who doesn't want their troops looking smart?

Couple more random photo's of the boys counter marching.

Cheers & thanks for looking

ECW-Henry Tilliers regiment of Foote: Pt. 1

Rebasing for the Barque rules system. Been soaking a handful of figures to remove them from their single bases with some touching up highlights, battle damage, flesh tones etc. Overall brighter look to make them stand out on the table top.

I suspect that these are Foundry miniatures from the ECW range

Still have the coat sleeves to finish but he didn't want to miss out on a photo op.
